Tracey Emin

The use of text and object

Tracey Emin is world renowned  for her conceptual art pieces. Using every day objects and life lessons to create her pieces. In the form of installations pieces her work has a very feminist back story.

I have chosen this piece because of the use of type and the way Emin has made the letter luminous to reflect the tone of the message she is trying to portray. Mixing humour and crudeness.
The linguistic for of the sentence makes the phrase feel broken. Like it has a sarcastic tone and almost bitterness behind it. Very much how an angry woman would sound.

The just of fluorescent lighting introduces another element to the work. Almost like old diner style signage or even a tacky display at a fairground. It provokes the idea of sex with the use of pink before the word 'cunt' is even unraveled.
