Organic kingdom The Hive
The Hive – A honeybee related project. Over
the summer I was sad to see a lot of bees had been killed or were dying so in
relation to organic kingdom I came up with this treatment. I wanted to spread
awareness of the diminishing numbers of the honeybee population.
The idea behind my work is to create a
motion image that capture the viewer lets them make up their own thoughts and
feelings about my project.
What I would intend to produce is a visual
that the person could step inside. Whether it is a gallery space or a room.
Some where away from outside noise. Using a mandala I would create different patterns across a plain back drop. Moving the image in a phycadelic way. To increase the interest of the viewer.
This is the sort of effect I want to
create. A peace yet mind boggling atmosphere I want the participant of my piece
to make his or her own conclusions to my work and not be told how to feel.

The rabbit hole effect would be a great
aspect for my work, to make people forget about real life and just be entranced
by my work for a short while. Even though it isn’t real.
This is the video that inspired me to make
an interactive, motion graphics. The
concept behind the piece is genius.
Within the motion graphic I hope to involve
my own artwork, I have done different designs of both full-bodied bees. I am also interested in looking at different patterns and shapes to make up the bee formation or be a representation of what is possible.
If I didn’t do this I
will be drawing bees that have a tribal feel to them. I got the inspiration for
this from a friend’s work she has recently been posting on her blog.
I think the pattern will make a more
interesting effect. If I went down this route, I will probably create
visualizations from the bees, relating back to the video, which I captured at
the Tate gallery in 2013 but I do not know which artist produced the piece.
To create an alternate universe for my
viewers I would also incorporate the hum the bees make whilst they are buzzing
around the hive. I did think about
putting a sound track to the motion but people would only have to experience
this for a short while if the natural noises were used.
This video is perfect to reflect one of the
moods I would like to portray through my work. With the clever use of light and
relating back to the organic kingdom within the video. Also the song isn’t only
vocal, there are some hidden sounds within.
For my idea I
would make the screen look like there is a swarm of bees around a hive that
will disperse when the audience enter the room and the room will be filled with
colourful visualisations As the audience moves so
will the visualisations This is will be done in the same way Chris Milk
created ‘The treachery of sanctuary’. Through kinetic controllers and infrared
lights.These will pick up
the motions of the audience and change the visualizations on the screens in
front of them.
For the test of my visualisation I have created a short video which shows a small draft of what I would like to produce. On a blank backdrop of white so that the image is clear even when it fades in and out of focus. I have made it so the patterns overlap which to me looks busy - 'Like a bee'.
I want my piece to be enchanting for the viewer. Fun to watch and spur on creativeness.
If i had to produce this on a larger scale this would only be part of my project. Possibly at the start of the movement to build up intensity and interest in the viewer. Expanding and distorting its self in to different views, to create an effect which could resemble being in a hive, in a creative way. I think the pattern of the mandala reflects the tribal patterns i wanted to incorporate on to the bees bodies.
I have also used a different sound track, It is still along the lines of what I would like to have a in my motion image. The music is sweet and peaceful. It would be captivating for the viewer.
