Recently we had a visit with 2 of the 3 people who work at Textbook studios. They are a northern based company that rely doing there work within a classic studio. Using forgotten practices and teaching them selves new techniques to create their pieces of design.
Well known for their imaginative designs and use of Risograph printing the small but successful business is consumed with publications. Their work is based around the environment and get a lot of their clientele because of this.
The workshop they set us was called 'Schaden - Freurde' - Taking pleasure in the misfortune of others. Our task was to take one of the sentences and within a group create a publication that explains it perfectly. Using print, found image/ type, drawing and what other type of materials we could find or have. The publication had to be entirely made out of paper and the we had to think of our method of binding the pages or keeping them together in some format.
I did gain experience out of this workshop. It helped me to broaden my horizons. I didn't quite finish my personal publication but the Textbook studio artists had brought some fantastic pieces for inspiration. The use of different colours and printing techniques was amazing.
